Description

The oldest instrument of the Basque Country as a decorative piece

The Miniature Txalaparta is a scale decorative replica of the oldest Basque percussion instrument: two beech planks played with two sticks. A unique handmade keepsake.

The original instrument

The txalaparta is a percussion instrument of Neolithic origin, played in Basque farmhouses to announce cider making and at celebrations. It disappeared for decades and was revived in the 1960s by the Artze brothers.

The decorative piece

  • Planks of natural beech turned by hand on a treadle lathe
  • Two sticks of mountain ash with leather grips
  • Stand in walnut with resting grooves
  • Linseed oil finish — no synthetic varnish

Dimensions: 35×15×8 cm. One of a kind — no two are the same.
